About Can-SHARE
The Canadian International Data Sharing Initiative (Can-SHARE) builds on the core mission of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health to catalyze projects that promote, drive, and demonstrate the value of responsible data sharing by convening stakeholders and creating harmonized approaches.
The Can-SHARE New Initiatives Program
The goal of the Can-SHARE “New Initiatives” program is to improve human health by promoting new ideas and solutions for responsible data sharing in genomics. Funding is available for projects aligned with Can-SHARE’s objectives, including projects that:
- Improve human health via effective and responsible sharing of medical genomics data;
- Develop guidelines or frameworks for sharing clinical and/or genomic data;
- Establish standards or protocols for secure international transmission, storage, and analysis of genomic data;
- Develop international policy and harmonization guidelines that assure the privacy and confidentiality of clinical or clinical genomic data.
The Can-SHARE New Initiatives Program is funded by Genome British Columbia (Genome BC) in partnership with TELUS Health. The Program supports projects with in-kind services provided by TELUS Health. In addition, cash support from $50,000 to $100,000 per project per year may be requested to support project activities that are not available through TELUS Health. New Initiative projects must have a 1- to 2-year timeframe to completion. Application deadline is July 29, 2016.
Approved New Initiatives will benefit from scientific collaboration and administrative support of Can-SHARE. Can-SHARE will encourage collaboration with appropriate Global Alliance Working Groups and Task Teams and encourage integration of Global Alliance policies into the development of data sharing research or clinical tools. This interaction will allow Can-SHARE to “stress-test” the policies and Genomics-related Economic, Environmental, Ethical, Legal, and Social (GE3LS) issues, tools developed in a collaborative environment.
