Since our inception in 2000, Ontario Genomics has:
- Raised more than $1.27 billion for genomics research in Ontario and directly supported more than 9,100 jobs.
- Secured over $467 M federal Genome Canada funds, $134 M provincial (Ministry of Economic Development, Jobs and Trade) co-funding, and more than $667 M of investments from industry and other partners for genomics research programs in Ontario.
“The assistance from Ontario Genomics during the GAPP proposal process in connecting our team with leaders in both the public and private sectors was instrumental in enabling us to successfully leverage Canadian government funds and to initiate this important work to improve the sustainability of canola. By leveraging those public sector funds, we have been able to create jobs and aggressively pursue sustainability traits that we believe will have a significant impact in the marketplace.”
Matthew Crisp, CEO, Benson Hill Biosystems
“Public-private programs bring together expertise and lead to leveraging investments of all partners to add value to the food industry. Ontario Genomics has been instrumental in developing new opportunities to help Parmalat Canada compete more effectively by increasing the quality and the output of cheese production. Genomics technology is central to expanding the tools available for process control. The support of Ontario Genomics has enabled us to create new jobs and improve the technical capacity of company personnel. This has led to increased productivity, and greater potential for developing new products.”
Maria Pepe, VP Research & Development, Parmalat Canada
“As a start-up, the early stage funding provided by Ontario Genomics was instrumental in getting our company off the ground. The funding allowed us to move forward in our collaboration with Schrödinger Inc. and start working toward our goal of tackling the problem of fungal drug-resistance.”
Dr. Dominic Jaikaran, CEO, Bright Angel Therapeutics
“We are thankful to Ontario Genomics team for their constant support, and for funding our technology for production of natural ingredients using synthetic biology. The funding allowed us to make samples for customer validation, which was crucial in helping us raise follow-on funding.”
Pratish Gawand, CEO and Co-Founder, Ardra
“I’d like to express my deepest appreciation to Ontario Genomics. The investment we received through Ontario Genomics’ PBDF program was essential for our technology advancement and it allowed us to start developing the ground-breaking polyclonal antibody sequencing technology at a critical time in our development, enabling us to maintain a leadership position and increase our market competitiveness.”
Mingjie Xie, CEO and Co-Founder, Rapid Novor
“Ontario Genomics provided Nicoya with funding in our early stages of growth which helped us to continue the development of our ground breaking technology. This has helped to ensure that we can provide our customers with the best possible solution for their needs.”
Ryan Denomme, CEO, Nicoya Lifesciences
“Early investment by Ontario Genomics into Encycle and the Yudin lab at the University of Toronto was instrumental in developing the core chemistry platform upon which our company was founded and operates today. Thanks to their support at a critical time, the ability of our company to generate unique molecules (nacellins) that can access erstwhile undruggable targets is well-recognized in the industry and this has allowed Encycle to both generate a high-potential pipeline and form international partnerships.”
Jeffrey Coull, PhD, President and CEO, Encycle Therapeutics Inc.
“Ontario Genomics played an instrumental role in drawing our team members together and providing the support needed to investigate the application of DNA technology in mining. We are now carrying what we’ve learned forward to explore more of what DNA-based tools can bring to effectively address environmental challenges for the mining sector. The guidance from the OG team has been invaluable in moving this work forward and their energy and enthusiasm has been infectious!”
