Research Projects

Since inception, OGI has worked with some 53 projects funded through various research programs and covering a broad spectrum of genomics applications, with budgets totalling over $760 million. The duration of projects is from two to five years. Project budgets average $12 million but have been as high as $180 million for large scale international consortia.

Project leaders are based at academic and other research institutions in Ontario. A majority of projects involve other Canadian and international co-investigators from academia and industry.

Genome Canada funding through OGI

Requests for Genome Canada funding for Ontario-led large-scale genomics and proteomics research projects and science and technology platforms must be submitted through OGI. These applications must conform to the guidelines for the particular competition.

Genome Canada can pay up to 50% of eligible costs of most projects that it approves. The balance must come from other funding organizations. For example, if peer review determines  that  a research proposal will require $10 million over  three years, Genome Canada may cover as much as $5 million, and the balance must derive from other sources (‘co-funding’) – for example, industry, international funding bodies, not-for-profit organizations, and provincial governments.  Note that different funding criteria apply for Platforms and ICIs. Please contact OGI for more information.

Use our search tool to find more information on the research projects and platforms funded through OGI.  You can search by research category (e.g., health, technology development), funding program (e.g., Applied Human Health, Competition III), investigator, research institution, and more. The project summaries are provided compliments of Genome Canada.
