Expressions of Interest to identify tumour types

The Canadian Cancer Research Alliance (CCRA) is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from research groups or research consortia to identify tumour types for study.

CCRA Call for EOI ICGC - announcement.pdf

With this call for EOIs the CCRA is facilitating Canadian involvement in the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), one of the most ambitious biomedical research efforts since the Human Genome Project.  The ICGC will coordinate an international-scale scientific effort to understand the genomic, transcriptomic and epigenetic changes involved in the major forms of cancer. This information will lead to better ways of diagnosing, treating and preventing cancer.

CCRA members have expressed high interest in the following cancer types:

          • Pediatric cancers;
          • Prostate cancer; and,
          • Sarcomas.

Projects focusing on tumour types that have received funding commitments from other countries are not encouraged, unless justified.   EOIs should be written to make the strategic case for the study of specific tumour types by also addressing the resources and research capacity available within Canada.

The timeline for submission of EOIs to the CCRA is as follows:

July 1, 2009    Deadline for EOIs
   (submit to Dr. Stuart Edmonds at: research@partnershipagainstcancer.ca).
September, 2009    Decision with respect to selection of tumour types or subtypes
Fall 2009      Request for Applications process will be announced
