In July 2004, Genome Canada launched a third open competition - Competition III - in an effort to support high-level genomics and proteomics research. On 25 August 2005, it announced $346 million in awards to 33 projects lasting 3 to 4 years. Of these, ten projects and one technology platform were funded through OGI, with a total project value of $172.5 million (including $85 million in funding from Genome Canada).
Ontario Projects funded through Competition III:
Structural and Functional Annotation of the Human Genome for Disease Study
The Contribution of Genetic Modulators of Disease Severity in Cystic Fibrosis to Other Diseases
with Similarities of Clinical Phenotype
Strengthening the Role of Genomics and Global Health
Genome-Environment Interactions in Type 1 Diabetes
Identification of Genetic Pathways that Regulate the Survival and Development of Cancer and
Cancer Stem Cells
