Background
The Ontario Genomics Institute ("OGI") - as part of its mandate to augment, for Ontario's genomics research community, access to and the impact of genomics technology and resources, and thereby to increase the competitive capacity for genomics research initiatives in Ontario - has established a program to support and develop Ontario science and technology service platforms funded by Genome Canada, or those that are part of OGI's affiliated service platform facilities in Ontario (collectively referred to as " Genomics Platforms" below).
By "genomics", we mean large-scale, holistic and systematic approaches (and associated technologies) to creating resources accelerating life sciences research; this is inclusive of proteomics and other "omics" applications.
This seeding program has the following specific objectives:
- To acquire a novel and/or leading-edge technology/tool for genomics platforms;
- To catalyze capacity-building activities in Ontario;
- To enhance breadth, depth, quality and efficiency of service at the facilities; and,
- To ascertain the potential of new technologies.
To be eligible, the technology being considered must be:
- Closely aligned with and used for genomics (large-scale, systematic, and holistic) strategies in the life sciences;
- Leading edge and/or provide a price advantage;
- Be likely to create -- through familiarity with it and the data it generates -- a significant, new advantage for Ontario scientists; and,
- Unique and unavailable elsewhere in Ontario;
- If successful the technology must be provisioned to the platform and be provided as a service to Ontario scientists.
To be eligible, Genomics Platforms must be:
- Ontario-based and funded by Genome Canada;
- Ontario-based and a member of OGI's Platform Affiliate Program; or
- PI working in conjunction with an OGI Platform Affiliate.
