OGI partnered with the Stiller Centre to host this presentation of the inaugural Stiller Centre Prize and the OGI Pre-commercialization Business Development Fund (PBDF) investment to Cytognomix, a start-up biotech company based in London, Ontario. Over 50 researchers, industry and government representatives gathered at the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame in London to celebrate these investments into this innovative biotech company founded by husband and wife team Drs. Peter Rogan and Joan Knoll. The company is developing novel DNA probes that detect chromosomal abnormalities more effectively than other methods currently available to diagnostic and research laboratories.
The Honourable John Wilkinson, Minister of Research and Innovation, presented the Prize on behalf of the Stiller Centre, commenting on the importance of supporting Ontario businesses like Cytognomix that are leading the way in developing the technology of the future and helping to grow the province’s knowledge-based economy today. Dr. Christian Burks, OGI’s President and CEO, presented a cheque through OGI’s PBDF aimed at supporting the acceleration of genomics discoveries and technologies to the marketplace. Other speakers included Dr. Cal Stiller (Chair, Stiller Prize Selection Committee), Hank vander Laan (Chair, Stiller Centre Board of Directors), Glen Smeltzer (President, Stiller Centre), Khalil Ramal (MPP, London Fanshawe) and Dr. Peter Rogan (President, Cytognomix Inc.).
