More than 130 people attended this public forum, which OGI and MaRS co-hosted. The forum, which took place at MaRS as part of National Biotechnology Week, brought together artists who work in television and on the stage as dramatists, choreographers, and dancers to speak to the role of communicating science through art. The panel - with scientist, musician, and OGI Board Director Dr. Jim Friesen as moderator - included Christina Jennings and Peter Outerbridge, the creator and lead actor, respectively, of Shaftesbury Films' award-winning TV science drama ReGenesis; LLDE founding artistic director Liz Lerman and associate artistic director Elizabeth Johnson; Dr. Jeff Nisker (University of Western Ontario), clinician, ethicist, and playwright of Sarah's Daughters and Orchids, which explore the ethical and social implications of knowing one's genes; and Canadian actress Martha Zimmerman, who gave a powerful performance of a scene from Sarah's Daughters.
