Dr. Jerry Workman addresses the symposium.

OGI teamed up with Invitrogen Corporation, a California-based global leader in providing life sciences technology, to host Genome 2.0: New Frontiers in Epigenomics, a one-day symposium addressing epigenetic regulation of gene expression with a focus on chromatin biology, DNA methylation, non-coding RNAs, and technology development.

The event featured presentations from leading Canadian and U.S. researchers in epigenomics, including Drs. Christopher Adams (Invitrogen), Loyal Goff (Rutgers University), Art Petronis (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and University of Toronto), Moshe Szyf (McGill University), and Jerry Workman (Stowers Institute for Medical Research).  Dr. Rosanna Weksberg (SickKids) served as scientific chair. The more than 165 participants came from research institutions across Ontario and the rest of North America, covering academic organizations, government, and industry.

The day culminated with a probing panel discussion on epigenomics technologies. The panel's engaging dialogue with the audience revolved around emerging challenges and opportunities in epigenomics and its enabling technologies, including microarray analysis, next-generation sequencing, and single-cell imaging.

"The conference was a tremendous success. It was well attended, the program was first rate and the networking was excellent. It is difficult for me to think of an event that was as enjoyable as this in terms of scientific content and identifying research needs."

- Dr. Christopher Adams, Senior Staff Scientist and Research Area Manager in Epigenetics, Invitrogen
