Ongoing - Technology Days
OGI supports the maintenance and cultivation of genomics resources that have emerged from research projects in Ontario, and which may become sustainable production resources for the international research community. Its aim is to help give researchers in this province access to leading-edge, enabling technologies and to support domestic genomics resources that can aid research everywhere.
A current effort - “Technology Days” - aims to increase visibility and use of genomics resources that Ontario researchers have helped develop. “Technology Days” events have included:
- A webinar/web conference co-hosted by OGI and TCAG that introduced iRefWeb – a web-based interface to a large landscape of protein-protein interactions (PPI), consolidated from major public databases (December 2010).
- A webinar/web conference co-hosted by OGI and the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) that offered information about the Reactome Database - an open-source, manually-curated resource of core pathways and reactions in human biology (December 2009)
- A webinar/web conference co-hosted by OGI and The Centre for Applied Genomics (TCAG) about the Database of Genomic Variants (DGV), a curated database that catalogues structural variation in the human genome (July 2009)
- Two hands-on demos of bioinformatics tools for ‘Pathway and Network Analysis’ including Cytoscape and GeneMANIA, co-hosted by OGI and TCAG in Toronto (November 2008)
- A series of webinars/web conferences co-hosted by OGI and TCAG that offered information about mouse mutagenesis resources available through the NorCOMM project (2008).

Ongoing - Science with Industry Workshops
Each year, OGI together with a high profile industry partner, organizes a ‘science with industry’ event. These are one-day symposia focused on an area of research closely related to or depending on genomics that is both scientifically exciting and emerging in Ontario and internationally as a focus of commercial activity.
There are several primary goals and benefits of these workshops:
- To create greater awareness in Ontario of emerging areas of commercializable science.
- To build networking that can lead to collaboration/partnership involving academic and industry research groups.
- To build a strong working tie with the key industry player with which OGI partners; these ties can be leveraged in the future for access to new technologies and discounted costs on behalf of the genomics researchers accessing technology through OGI’s Platform Affiliate Program partners.
