Overview
In November 2008, Genome Canada and the Life Sciences Department of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) called for letters of intent (LOIs) to develop applied large-scale, joint research projects in genomics and proteomics in relation to human health. Identified areas of common interest and strength include:
- adverse drug reactions
- cancer
- cardiovascular diseases
- central nervous system (CNS) disorders
- metabolic disorders
- infectious diseases
LOIs concerning the economic, environmental, ethical, legal, and social aspects of genomics research (GE3LS) in these strategic areas were eligible. In addition, LOIs required research partners from Canada and Italy with a project co-leader from each country. They should have also proposed a new, unique .joint research project that had not previously received support and that required the other country's involvement.
